Cancer of the cervix is the most common cancer in the females in india.

SYMPTOMS--

• Post menopausal vaginal bleeding.
• Excessive blood loss during the monthly periods.
• Blood loss outside the usual dates.
• Blood stained offensive discharge.

Early detection--- It is possible with pap smear

Maximum age incidence is in the 25-45 age group.

Causes--exact cause is not known.
Studies have shown that--

• It could be linked to sexual intercourse. Cases are more likely to be widowed, divorced ,separated & having multiple partners rather than single.
• It is linked to Human Papilloma Virus infection.
• Early marriage, early coitus, early child bearing are associated with increased risk.
• Association with oral contraceptive pills is being studied.
• It is more common among the lower socioeconomic group--probably because of poor genital hygiene
