What is Reynaud's phenomenon ?--
It is a condition characterize by change in color, pain in the fingers associated with exposure to cold. On exposure to cold, they suddenly lose circulation & turn pale. On rewarming, the blood flow returns, the fingers turn first blue & then slowly return to normal color. This may take 10 to 15 minutes.

What is the cause of Reynaud's phenomenon ? The exact cause of Reynaud's is not fully understood. However what is clear is that it is caused due to immunologocal disturbances. How is Reynaud's phenomenon diagnosed ?--

Reynaud's phenomenon is a clinical diagnosis i.e. it can be diagnosed from the history alone. However to find out presence of any other yet unmanifested autoimmune disease various tests can be done.

What is the treatment of Reynaud's phenomenon ?--

Prevention of the episode is more important than the treatment of one . Hence ---
1) Dress warmly
2) Avoid smoking.
3) Avoid beta blocking drugs, ergotamine(used in migraine)
Drugs that are used for prevention of an episode are Nifedepine, Ketanserin. However these are to be used only after consulting your Physician.
